The Cup of Borealis is a Baronial level award given by the Barony of Borealis. It is awarded for ongoing excellence in persona development. The spirit of the Cup is that it is typically given to one who has demonstrated growth of character and self-improvement within the SCA.
The Cup of Borealis is held by its recipient for one year, at the end of which it is awarded to a new recipient, chosen by the Baron and Baroness, traditionally with the consultation of the current recipient.
First given in 1987 by Baron Conrad von Gratz and Baroness Cristiona of Ulidia, the Cup of Borealis is a small silver plated chalice bearing an inscription and decorated with the twin wolves of Borealis' heraldry. The inscription reads: ᚷᛁVᛖᚾ ᛒΛ ᚦᛖ ᛟᛚᛞ ᚦᛟᛚᚠ ᛟᚠ ᛊᛖ?ᛏᛖᚾᛏᚱᛁᚨ ᛏᛟ ᚺᛟᚾᛟᚢᚱ ᚦᛖ ᛒᛖᛊᛏ ᛟᚠ ᛒᛟᚱᛟᛚᚢᛊ (GIVEN BY THE OLD WOLF OF SEPTENTRIA TO HONOUR THE BEST OF BOREALIS)
