A tournament (also known as a tourney) is a competition held in a martial discipline within the SCA. A tournament might be held in Armoured combat, Archery, Rapier combat, or Equestrian.
Tournaments are a large part of SCA culture. The most important tournament in Avacal across all disciplines is the Crown Tournament. Tournaments typically award either a ceremonial position (see Championship, Defendership, The Crown), or a prize.
Often, in addition to the main prize of a tourney, a non-prowess related 'Chivalry prize' (armoured) or 'Gallantry prize' (rapier) is awarded to a participant of the tourney based on courtesy
List of Tournament Formats
- Squire/Provost/Archarius tournament
A tourney format focused on teaching. Participants may or may not report wins and losses. There may be no prizes given, but typically 1-3 prizes are given out for most wins, most fights, and chivalry/gallantry. This tournament style is typically fought with many pairs of fighters in one eric, in relatively close quarters.
- Double Elimination tournament
An elimination tournament style which is common across many competition types and sports. Participants have two "lives", and after losing 2 bouts, the participant is eliminated from the tourney. Lists for this tournament
