Dáire Ó Lochlainn is late-10<sup>th</sup> century Hiberno-Norse, born 966. Living in the northwest of Ireland, he is one of the many ''famuli'' in service to the Columban monastery at Derry. His primary roles are as a labourer in the adjacent monastic holdings, and to care for the pack animals of the Brothers when they travel. Being orphaned into the monastic community at an early age, Dáire can read some Gaelic and Latin, but has neither the knowledge nor skills to write. As an agricultural labourer; he is as likely to be laying a live-hedge, or taking the pigs for pannage, one day, as he is to be helping the Brother apiarist with his bees, the next.<br />

==The Company of the Hurst and Hounds==<br />
The Company of the Hurst and Hounds is in its infancy. While its name and badge have been registered with the College of Heralds, as noted on the LoAR of August 2025, recruitment has just begun. <br><br><br />
The Company shares many of the interests of other Kingdoms’ Forestry and/or Herbalist Guilds. These include, but are not limited to:<br />
* ‘Book research’ and, hopefully, write-up of, ‘field, farm and forest’ topics;<br />
* ‘Field, farm and forest’ inspired Arts & Sciences, preferably with accompanying documentation, even if only a non-referenced description and/or photographs of process;<br />
* Teaching, both formal and informal;<br />
* Camping, from SCA Pavilioning, to ‘car camping’ to ‘wilderness camping’, all informed by a ‘leave no trace’ ethic; <br />
* Self-propelled movement through green spaces or the natural environment, from modern dog walks in an urban park to multi-day backcountry excursions, summer or winter, modern or ‘medieval-equipped’;<br />
* Safe, and legal, foraging/gathering of foodstuffs, gardening for foods, herbs, dye and/or fiber plants, and the cooking and/or processing thereof; <br />
* SCA martial arts with an especial focus on archery, and;<br />
* Company and/or Branch administration or service.<br />
==Household Aims==<br />
To foster a group of like-minded individuals who share the Company’s interests and support one another in the pursuit of those interests. <br />
==Membership==<br />
The populace of any Kingdom may be invited to join the Company when they have demonstrated both interest in and practice of the Company’s pursuits. Members are welcome to use the Company badge.<br><br><br />
Reasons for asking one to leave the Membership include, but are not limited to:<br />
* Activity that causes avoidable/intentional harm to the environment (flora, fauna, water, green spaces, the air, etc.);<br />

Pronounced Darah O Lockluhn (He, Him)<br />
<br />
Dáire Ó Lochlainn is late-10<sup>th</sup> century Hiberno-Norse, born 966. Living in the northwest of Ireland, he is one of the many ''famuli'' in service to the Columban monastery at Derry. His primary roles are as a labourer in the adjacent monastic holdings, and to care for the pack animals of the Brothers when they travel. Being orphaned into the monastic community at an early age, Dáire can read some Gaelic and Latin, but has neither the knowledge nor skills to write. As an agricultural labourer; he is as likely to be laying a live-hedge, or taking the pigs for pannage, one day, as he is to be helping the Brother apiarist with his bees, the next.<br />
<br />
Dáire lives in King's Land between the Barony of [[Montengarde]] and the Shire of [[Ayresgarde]], 'guarding' the Pass of the Kicking Horse against incursion from Tir Righ. Of late, he has been adopted by the bonny crew in Ayresgarde! <br />
<br />
Still finding his feet within the SCA, Dáire very much enjoys partaking in, and delivering, classes as he explores the offerings of the Kingdom and the Known World. <br />

==The Company of the Hurst and Hounds==<br />
The Company of the Hurst and Hounds is in its infancy. While its name and badge have been registered with the College of Heralds, as noted on the LoAR of August 2025, recruitment has just begun. <br><br><br />
The Company shares many of the interests of other Kingdoms’ Forestry and/or Herbalist Guilds. These include, but are not limited to:<br />
* ‘Book research’ and, hopefully, write-up of, ‘field, farm and forest’ topics;<br />
* ‘Field, farm and forest’ inspired Arts & Sciences, preferably with accompanying documentation, even if only a non-referenced description and/or photographs of process;<br />
* Teaching, both formal and informal;<br />
* Camping, from SCA Pavilioning, to ‘car camping’ to ‘wilderness camping’, all informed by a ‘leave no trace’ ethic; <br />
* Self-propelled movement through green spaces or the natural environment, from modern dog walks in an urban park to multi-day backcountry excursions, summer or winter, modern or ‘medieval-equipped’;<br />
* Safe, and legal, foraging/gathering of foodstuffs, gardening for foods, herbs, dye and/or fiber plants, and the cooking and/or processing thereof; <br />
* SCA martial arts with an especial focus on archery, and;<br />
* Company and/or Branch administration or service.<br />

To foster a group of like-minded individuals who share the Company’s interests and support one another in the pursuit of those interests. <br />

The populace of any Kingdom may be invited to join the Company when they have demonstrated both interest in and practice of the Company’s pursuits. Members are welcome to use the Company badge.<br><br><br />

Dáire Ó Lochlainn is late-10<sup>th</sup> century Hiberno-Norse, born 966. Living in the northwest of Ireland, he is one of the many ''famuli'' in service to the Columban monastery at Derry. His primary roles are as a labourer in the adjacent monastic holdings, and to care for the pack animals of the Brothers when they travel. Being orphaned into the monastic community at an early age, Dáire can read some Gaelic and Latin, but has neither the knowledge nor skills to write. As an agricultural labourer; he is as likely to be laying a live-hedge, or taking the pigs for pannage, one day, as he is to be helping the Brother apiarist with his bees, the next.<br />

Pronounced Darah O Lockluhn (He, Him)<br />
<br />
Dáire was born in Derry in 966. He was raised by the Brothers of St Columba and has served them in many capacities over the years. Born to an Irish mother and Norse father, Dáire straddles the Hiberno-Norse bridge of late 10<sup>th</sup>-century Ireland.<br />
<br />
Dáire lives in King's Land between the Barony of [[Montengarde]] and the Shire of [[Ayresgarde]], 'guarding' the Pass of Kicking Horses against incursion from Tir Righ. Of late, he has been adopted by the bonny crew in Ayresgarde! <br />
<br />
Still finding his feet within the SCA, Dáire very much enjoys partaking in, and delivering, classes as he explores the offerings of the Kingdom and the Known World. <br />

The Company shares many of the interests of other Kingdoms’ Forestry and/or Herbalist Guilds. These include, but are not limited to:<br />
* ‘Book research’ and, hopefully, write-up of, ‘field, farm and forest’ topics;<br />
* ‘Field, farm and forest’ inspired Arts & Sciences, preferably with accompanying documentation, even if only a non-referenced description and/or photographs of process;<br />
* Teaching, both formal and informal;<br />
* Camping, from SCA Pavilioning, to ‘car camping’ to ‘wilderness camping’, all informed by a ‘leave no trace’ ethic; <br />
* Self-propelled movement through green spaces or the natural environment, from modern dog walks in an urban park to multi-day backcountry excursions, summer or winter, modern or ‘medieval-equipped’;<br />
* Safe, and legal, foraging/gathering of foodstuffs, gardening for foods, herbs, dye and/or fiber plants, and the cooking and/or processing thereof; <br />
* SCA martial arts with an especial focus on archery, and;<br />
